Hello Me, it's nice talking to myself

Sat Sep 22, 2007, 8:57 PM
I just realised how long it's been since I've updated this bloody thing! Obviously I've been in my own little world. Hope everyone is well. I'm taking some time out to suck back some coffee and catch up on a much needed art fix. I missed you guys while I've been on my DA hiatus. I can't wait to have a good look at your work.

Have just come back from a week in the Hunter Valley staying on an Olive Grove. It was absolute heaven. Silence, solitude and total creative freedom. Just me and my camera while my man and dog had afternoon naps and watched movies and read. Not another soul in sight, except the many birds and bees and the occasional fly which Chai tried to eat, or else sit shaking in her boots. I've never met another dog afraid of flies before! Strange creature! I cooked healthy food and made peanut butter cookies. Yum!

A month ago I started making the transition to veganism. It has been relatively easy, apart from two slip ups when out in social situations and I consumed dairy. Otherwise I'm really enjoying it. I am doing it for ethical reasons and have never made a more important or empowering decision in my life. I'm very happy. The 'film' issue is obviously one close to my heart, and for the time being I will only be shooting digital. As you know I am an avid lover of toy and vintage cameras from way back, and I have a considerable collection. I also have decent stocks of polaroid, trannies and film here as well. What to do? I think I will finish the film I have here, and not purchase anymore. Perhaps I will sell my holgaroid.....any takers?

Any one else out there vegan? I'd love to exchange ideas, opinions and recipes!

Hopefully it won't be too long before I update again, until then, here is some random art I liked.

I say keep the cameras (unless they have animal products) and just avoid film. They'll be nice discussion pieces! :)

welcome back! I'm enjoying more and more of your wonderfully artistic Aussie mates on dA (and elsewhere, like a music stage), but I was wondering how the first one I met here (or whever it was) has been doing.

BEST WISHES!

I got to hang out with Eskimo Joe at the end of August - read [link] - who are just a "little bit" popular down there, right.

:)

I look forward to new camera work from you, regardless which side of the camera you happen to be on.

Haha funny you should mention his sound guy and all this tech stuff. My man is a sound engineer (amongst other things like IT geek, tour manager, production manager, producer etc etc) and it seems we love all our gadgets and gizmos down this side of the planet! Yes, I think Eskimo Joe have a decent fan base here, what I've heard from them doesn't really do it for me though.

I've been vegetarian for 13 years now and its been extremely easy. I tried to be vegan earlier in the year. I lasted about 6 months before I became really ill and everyone got so pissed off at me that we could never go out anywhere to eat - I see from your slip-up in a social situation that you too seem to have had this trouble too. I just hate to put other people out and its hard enough for meat-eaters to cook for vegetarians, let alone vegans. And finding good vegan restaurants anywhere other than central London is a fucking nightmare. Good luck though!!

We're lucky in Sydney, there are quite a few choices as far as eating out goes so thats good. But yes, the choices in 'general' restaurants are pretty bleak. Luckily I mostly prepare my own food at home. It seems that my slip ups have been when other people offer me food, if I'm on my own in a supermarket I am obsessive about reading every last ingredient on a label and cross checking it with my little reference book. However I have a real problem with putting people out, offending people or causing conflict, which I realise I will have to get over. I'm hoping that over time it will all become second nature and I'll learn how to deal with all this in the most polite way possible, but also in a way that doesn't go against what I believe in.

How much would you sell you holgaroid for? :)

I haven't thought about it, but it's hardly been used so i guess it wouldn't be less than about $150. I paid over $200 I think. They've stopped making them now.

You know where I am on LJ, but you choose not to read! lol. Anyway, I hope to be back here alot more frequently from now on. I think I got a bit disheartened with the whole 'fetish/glam' scene, I was kind of backed into a hole as it were and I really feel that everything is very stale in that genre right now, but DA is so much more diverse than that. I look forward to discovering new stuff again!
